The community has organized itself. Today over 150 people, climbers
and newbies, gathered at StoneWorks climbing gym in Beaverton to raise
funds to distribute information about the impending the Madrone wall closure
and demolition.
Coffee People provided the refreshments, StoneWorks gym provided
a free day of climbing, U.S. outdoor store, The Mountain Shop and Roam
provided gear and outdoor clothing for the auction. There was a band, refreshments
and impromptu rock climbing clinics and friendly, informal competition.
Participants signed up for a mailing list, a Madrone Wall action
committee, and found out where to go for more information. The chairperson
of the committee spoke and stated that there were several steps that Clackamas
County needed to perform that they have not started yet. It was estimated
that it would take at least three to six months before demolition starts.
Please let your voice be known, click to the right and we will
mail a letter to Clackamas County registering your opposition.
